The Collective Series: Hello Ayala, give us a brief introduction about yourself.
Ayala Ibragimova: I was born and raised in Almaty, Kazakhstan. I live and work in Spilimbergo and find it a fascinating city with inspiring creative resources. In my work, I try to experiment and usually I use mixed media to understand and maintain the unity of opposites in the eternal ambivalence of feeling.
TCS: Describe yourself in three words.
AI: Creative, skilful, procrastinator.
TCS: Favorite song now on repeat?
AI: dudeontheguitar & Hey Monro - Boiy Bulgan. (PRESS PLAY)
TCS: Experimentation and creativity go hand in hand. What do you do to explore beyond your style of design and routine?
AI: I work with different materials in different techniques and collaborate with other people.
To help us get to know the creatives a little more. We’ve created a series of questions to ask the Collectives to see what makes them so unique.
For the fourth edition, we speak to illustrator & mosaic artist Ayala Ibragimova, based in Spilimbergo, Italy.
“For me, art is a boundless ocean of free interpretations and implications. I want to be confused and don't get to the bottom of an art piece. I want to be lost.”
TCS: What challenges you?
AI: Strict organisational frames, the need to wake up earlier than 8 in the morning.
TCS: Think of yourself as a creative therapist – what would you say to fellow artists stuck in a creative rut in the midst of COVID?
AI: Try with something really small without pushing yourself too much.
TCS: What advice did you get that was the most rewarding?
AI: Make a habit to sketch every day.
TCS: What made you laugh out loud?
AI: The video with my nephew.
TCS: What inspires you?
AI: Really different kinds of things. Movies, architecture, texture, fashion, nature, music, people, etc.
TCS: Your proudest work so far?
AI: Mural in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
TCS: What can we expect to see from you in the future?
AI: New projects.
